This evening's (2/6/25) JH girls' basketball contest at home vs. Immanuel Lutheran will now be a single 7th grade game only, due to low numbers. This game will begin at 5:30 pm. Please share with those who may be planning to attend. Thank you for your understanding.

Due to the icy weather forecast, our basketball games have been cancelled for this evening (2/5/25). The JH girls at Galena is cancelled and cannot be rescheduled due to calendar conflicts. The HS girls game at home vs. Pearl City may be rescheduled for a later date. The building will be closed after 5:00 pm. Stay safe!

Yesterday was school day #100!! Some of Mrs. Goeke's class celebrated by dressing up as if they were one-hundred-years-old. Fun! (Let's hope we are all as energetic as the 3rd grade when we are aged 100!)

ISBE (Illinois State Board of Education) chose to spotlight one of our photos from the 8th grade outdoor education trip to Timber-lee on their Facebook page as their Photo of the Week! It is nice to be recognized for a great photo and a wonderful program.

After the recent snow day, Mrs. Lorig's first graders enjoyed making "snow" for a quick science experiment! They mixed conditioner with baking soda and the reaction even made the "snow" cold! Everyone enjoyed playing with it!

We hope you are enjoying the warmer but slightly gloomy weather today. Happy February... tomorrow! Here is the February 2025 newsletter for Orangeville School District: https://5il.co/36rea

Congratulations to the following who exemplify our "Beyond the Bronco" way! Though they were announced at the January board of education meeting, we would like to recognize them here: Great job Bentley B., Hayden S., Ella K., and Ms. GariLynne Reed!

Laney Cahoon is on the national stage, up for National Girls Athlete of the Week through Sports Illustrated! Let's show how Broncos support one of our own and vote her to top! You can vote as many times as you would like, and voting ends 2/3/25. https://tinyurl.com/mv278mwk

Tomorrow night's (1/30/25) HS girls' basketball game at home against Durand is being moved from a 5:30 to a 6:00 pm start. The varsity game is first, and then will be followed by two JV quarters due to low numbers. Please share with those planning to attend tomorrow.

The Orangeville School District Spelling Bee took place this afternoon. Congratulations to Grady S., Keaton L., and Charger K! Great job spellers!! Grady moves on to the Regional Spelling Bee, which will take place at Highland Community College on February 11th.

The Orangeville School District spelling bee will take this afternoon starting at 1:00 pm in the high school gymnasium. If you wish to attend as a spectator, please enter through the bronco doors between 12:45 - 1:00.

An OHS alum made history in her college sports program, not once, but twice in one week! Last weekend scoring her 138th point as a junior at Penn State, Tessa Janecke broke the record to top the leader board for career points in women's hockey there. This weekend, she surpassed the men's record as well, to now become the overall career points leader in hockey program history at Penn State with 141 (and the season isn't over)! Way to go Tessa - the broncos love to see you continue to excel through your hard work and talent! (Photo credit to @PennStateWHKY )

The stars aligned last Friday and TWO of our Lady Broncos hit milestones in their basketball careers! Congratulations to Laney Cahoon on 2000 points, and Nadalee Doyle on 1000 points! Our FFA Chapter is having their annual breakfast and silent auction on Saturday, February 15th from 8-11 am in the school cafeteria. Cost is $8 per ticket, please see the flyer for more information.

Also on February 13th at the girls' basketball senior night, Servant Leadership will be having a fundraiser. This bake sale will support Hearts and Hands for Hunger, which does meal-packing and helps feed starving children around the world.

Sharing for our friends on the Post Prom committee: They are having a hog raffle! Tickets can be purchased from any junior parent or via Venmo. See the poster for more info. The winner will be drawn at the girls' basketball senior night on February 13th.

Though we miss Lorado Taft as the place our 8th graders went for many years, we were fortunate to find Camp Timber-Lee so that our annual outdoor education trip could continue this year. We received pictures and a message this morning: Can you post these? The kids want their parents to know they are doing okay, staying warm and having fun.

Update 1/21/25: This afternoon and evening's home extracurricular activities are on! The practices are allowed, so if anything changes, the information will come from your coach. The CareerTec info night is still happening this evening at 6 pm in the cafeteria. However, the JH girls' basketball away game is cancelled due to Forreston being closed today. Stay warm!

Due to the extreme cold weather forecast for tomorrow, January 21, 2025, school has been cancelled for Orangeville School District. The school day will be made up at the end of the year. The spelling bee scheduled for tomorrow has been postponed to January 28, 2025. After school activities will be decided by noon tomorrow. Please stay safe. -Mrs. Katzenberger
